From its inception, Manila Medical Center, or ‘ManilaMed’ for short, has shown how quality service and hard work can lead to success and longevity. Before becoming one of the best hospitals in the country, it started as a medical laboratory more than 50 years ago. ManilaMed was initially named Medilab, founded by six doctors trained in the United States. It did not become known as Medical Center Manila until 1967 when it was officially launched as a hospital.

Because of the top-notch healthcare it provides for Filipinos, Manila Medical Center was recognized as a Center of Excellence, the highest level of distinction given by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). The award means that it has performed well in providing medical care and upholding patients' rights and human resource management. The Healthcare Asia Awards also recognized Manila Medical Center for its Bedside Admission to Bedside Discharge Project, which fast-tracked the admission process. It also received the Silver Anvil Award for its online consultation program.

Facilities


Besides coveted awards and distinctions, ManilaMed boasts the latest medical equipment and facilities. Its Cancer Care Center's Linear Accelerator is the most advanced in the country. The machine kills cancer cells with minimal damage to healthy tissue. Manila Medical Hospital also has a dedicated Wound Care Unit designed to treat all kinds of injuries, whether chronic or acute. In addition, its Brain Center houses state-of-the-art electroencephalography (EEG) machines to diagnose various neurological disorders.

The hospital also boasts the first-ever Gender Diversity Center in the Philippines. It aims to help not only members of the LGBTQ+ community but also their relatives. The center provides services from gender reassignment surgery to family counseling.
