Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, or ‘Chinese Gen’ for short, is not just one of the premier health care leaders in the country. It's also a testament to the Philippines' colorful history. During the Spanish Occupation, the hospital opened its doors after Chinese immigrants came together and pooled their money to build a clinic to serve the local community. After World War II halted its operations, Chinese Gen came back stronger than ever. It not only renovated its facilities but also updated its tools and equipment.

Now, the medical center is fresh off its 130th-anniversary celebration and remains a standard for top-notch medical service.

### Charity Care

True to its charitable roots, Chinese Gen Hospital prides itself on its community-based programs. Despite being a privately owned and operated hospital, it has served the less fortunate for free and at discounted rates throughout the years. The medical center boasts its very own charity section with a capacity of 100 beds. In addition, it also operates a free clinic in Binondo and a Home for the Aged.

Beyond helping ease the financial burden, Chinese General Hospital has also assisted patients all over the country at times of calamities. From the deadly eruption of Mount Pinatubo to the catastrophic aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda, the medical center and its staff contributed their services and resources to help victims.

The medical center's charitable causes have also extended to government workers over the years. Chinese Gen has a memorandum of agreement with the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP). The deal ensures that the hospital provides free medical service to military members should they get injured on active duty.
